Hey David... Where's Jonathan?

Hey David... Where's Jonathan?

God anointed David to fight the enemy and glorify God's name on the earth. David would fight personal battles against bears, he would fight public battles against giants. One of the hardest battles David would face is the rejection of someone he looked up to, one of the only father figures in his life. King Saul would reject David and try to kill David. God knew that David would need support, so he sets up a divine appointment with Jonathan. David and Jonathan made a covenant together and Jonathan's support would be crucial to David's survival. Their relationship was intimate, vulnerable, supportive, protective, sacrificial, God honoring. Jonathan would later betray his own father for David when his father was planning to kill David. Jonathan sacrificed his most important relationship for David. Jonathan was there for David when no one else was. What would a covenant relationship like this do for you as a follower of Jesus? Someone to pull you out of your isolation and discouragement. Someone who knows you and calls you out and provokes you to be better. Someone who you can trust to uphold you, protect your reputation, stand up for you. Most Christians have yet to experience this type of relationship but God knows that we need it now more than ever. Hey David... Where's Jonathan?
